Payday Loan Shops Outnumber McDonalds and Bankrupcy Filings Outnumber College Degrees
Chuck Sheketoff
Oregon has more payday loan shops than McDonald's restaurants and is producing more bankruptcy filings than college degrees....
... Those are two interesting facts among literally hundreds in the Oregon Center for Public Policy's newest biennial report on Oregon's economy from the perspective of Oregon's workers. Get In the Shadows of the Recession: The State of Working Oregon 2004 by ordering a copy here for just $15.
No matter what issue demands your attention – worker wages and benefits, income inequality, creating affordable housing, improving the progressivity of our tax system, making child care more affordable, debt, bankruptcy, foreclosures, payday loans, addressing Oregon's stubborn levels of poverty, hunger, and food insecurity, addressing the decline of the Oregon Health Plan and Oregon's problem levels of uninsurance – In the Shadows of the Recovery is jam-packed with data you will be able to use.

Who says I got $15 to pay for it? LOL. I'm still trying to figure out if I've got the $5 for a raffle ticket. I've got the college degree, but I've managed to ward off the bankruptcy thing by the skin of my teeth. Anyone want to buy my house? lol. (Hmm. So incredibly tempted to just link to the online listing, but I'll refrain from being that self-serving. hehe).

I would love to buy this report...except I can't afford it! I am not kidding. This Bush economy is killing my (precariously) middle class family. We are much worse off than we were four years ago.
