BlueOregon gets more notice...

blueoregon admin

Welcome to Blue OregonAfter the initial messages of welcome from around the blogosphere, now comes the inevitable backlash - along with some more supportive commentary.

EyelineMatch wonders how blueblogger Wendy R-W could possibly care about clean air and schools in an age of terrorism.

Olivia Rabanal, from OregonLive, is off and running on a child care cooperative - on which blueblogger Leslie Carlson was most eloquent.

John Hays at SleazeReport.com gives us his own Dean Scream: "Oh no!!!!! - not more deep, meaningful discussions on the new blog in town. Aaaarrrgggghhhh!!!!"

OregonLive's Sarah Gilbert also says howdy: "BlueOregon is the hottest thing in political/news blogs. All the biggest names (and, even, some that don't suck) are making an appearance." Thanks, glad we don't suck.

And, last but not least, Oregonian-in-exile Chuck Currie gives us a shout-out: "This should be one of the first places you visit for Oregon news."

UPDATE: And, as b!X points out, we shouldn't leave out the dead-tree media. Willamette Week scooped our own press announcement. I'm not sure what a Blogistani warlord is, though. [One correction: While b!X is a huge inspiration for us, his involvement so far is limited to being our very first visitor - and our most prolific commenter.]

And don't forget the mention in today's Willamette Week which wrongly listed me as involved here. Heh.

  • (Show?)

Yes, yes, of course. I'll post an update. Thx!

I don't know what a Blogistani warlord is, either, but as Willamette Week thinks that I am one, I would like my government allotment of black Chevrolet Suburbans, sunglassed bodyguards with assault rifles, and cash in suitcases.

because this post is primarily about the site, I thought it might be ok for me to ask what exactly the blue part of blue oregon is in reference to, if anything?

  • (Show?)

    Sure, from the press announcement:

What's so "blue" about Oregon? In recent years, it's become fashionable in political circles to refer to a "Blue America" that votes Democratic and a "Red America" that votes Republican. While that political analysis is overly simplistic - America is really just shades of purple, right? - we think "Blue Oregon" reflects our collective vision of the Oregon we want to live in. It's a place where Oregonians believe in each other and work together through shared sacrifice to make Oregon a better place.

It's not the color of the bruises we're going to suffer in the comment threads?

I'm sure there are a few disappointed octogenarians out there who remember the term "blue movies" and thought they were going to get some home-grown Oregon porn. Sorry, guys.

I wonder when/why the democrats became blue? For the longest time, red was associated with communism, socialism & the democrats. I'm 44 now, and it just seems plain weird that the Democrats are now blue, and the Republicans are the color of the revolution...

From Red Square to square "reds": oh, how a mighty color has fallen.

we should all go down to the Red and Black Cafe and discuss it...
