March of the Penguins in Portland

In recent weeks, BlueOregon has featured the state of Oregon's efforts to build on its strengths in open source software and the mantra of "good jobs, good government and good software."  Next week, Portland will host two events that highlight Oregon's growing role in the Linux and open source software industry.

On October 13th and 14th, Oregon State University's Open Source Lab is sponsoring the first Government Open Source Conference (GOSCON).  Developed to meet the growing need for information and best practices regarding open source software in government settings, GOSCON will address a broad range of issues for public sector IT managers, including open source software case studies, return on investment, implementation, and security.  Among the featured speakers are Linda Hamel, general counsel of the Information Technology Division for the commonwealth of Massachusetts, Stuart Cohen, CEO of the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) and Dan Frye, vice president of Linux Technology for IBM.  To register or for more information, visit the GOSCON website at www.goscon.com.
